What to Wear Walking

You’ve made the decision to walk every day, but now you need to get the shoes to wear for your walks.  You need to buy comfortable yet supporting pair of running shoes as this is what most walkers look for in a shoe especially if you plan to walk thousands of steps a day. Many name brand walking shoes are too inflexible and unbending so that they do not integrate performance uniqueness of the current running shoes.  You need the flexibility in the walking shoe to have a pain free walk.

Walking shoes need to support flat feet, which leads leg  and ankle pain or injury.  Be sure to buy new shoes every 500 miles, so that your shoes can adequately support your feet. Walking shoes should  be flexible and allow plenty of room for your feet.  Find shoes that are about a size and a half larger than your regular dressy shoes. You want to have room to have a comfortable walk for a few thousand steps at least five to seven days a week.

What should you wear for walking or running gear?  Well, it depends on the climate and the time of year you are doing your walks.  Depending on your climate, dress in layers so you may remove a layer as you warm up while walking, and put it back on if you feel cool.  If the temperature is fairly mild, you can wear a t shirt or sweatshirt and possible windbreaker.  And if you are prone to sweating while walking, buy a polypropylene shirt to keep sweat away from your body.  If you live in a cold weather climate, make sure you are dressed for warmth in fleece or wool---and dress in layers under your jacket if it is extremely cold.

Wear  soft and warm socks should be comfortable,  because you want them to absorb swear and odors.   You do not want blisters, so if you want wear a thin cotton sock as a “liner” underneath your thick sock.  This will help prevent large blisters from occurring.  In addition, protect yourself from the sun by wearing sun block and wear  sunglasses for outdoor walking so that you  stop UV light on your eyes.
Take your car or house keys and place them in  your pockets or a fanny pack.   You want to walk with very little items to carry so that you are not weighted down.  To avoid dehydration, take a small bottle of water if you are walking for a half hour or more.
